Copper stocks continued to decline today. As of press time, Zijin Mining fell 5.28% to HK$10.4; China Gold International (02099) fell 4.79% to HK$22.85; China Nonferrous Mining (01258) fell 4.66% to HK$3.48; Jiangxi Copper Industry shares (00358) fell 2.2% to 16.04 Hong Kong dollars.
On the news, as investors worry that rising inflation will trigger a shift in Fed policy, global commodities have been adjusted across the board recently. The State Reserve Bureau of China plans to gradually dump the news of copper, aluminum and zinc reserves in the next few months, which will help the copper price decline. On Tuesday, recent-month copper futures fell 4.2% to US$4.34 per pound, 9% below the May record. The price of Lun copper fell by about 4%, staying at $9,500, to its lowest level in two months.
